A long-standing partnership grounded in a shared commitment to education and community outcomes is entering a powerful new chapter, with Bravus Australia announced as Presenting Partner of the Girls Campus at NRL Cowboys House.
The partnership reflects a deep alignment between Bravus Australia and the Cowboys Community Foundation, both focused on creating meaningful opportunities for young people from regional areas and strengthening communities across North and Far North Queensland.
Since opening in 2019, the Girls Campus has celebrated 43 graduates – young women who have left their families and remote communities to pursue education and opportunity.
Each student is supported by a dedicated, wraparound model spanning boarding, education, wellbeing, cultural connection and a comprehensive Career Transitions and Graduate Program. This approach ensures students are equipped not only to complete their secondary schooling, but are empowered to transition confidently into further education, training, employment and independent living.
Bravus Australia Chief Executive Officer Mick Crowe said the partnership would strengthen a proven program and link students with pathways into Queensland’s mining, rail and port sectors.
“As a company, we’re passionate about creating opportunities and pathways for the next generation of regional Queenslanders, whether that’s on the footy field or on site,” Mr Crowe said.
“As a parent, you understand how important it is to create the right environment for young people to grow, particularly young women taking big steps early in life. Leaving family and community to pursue an education takes real courage, and that should never be underestimated.
“This partnership isn’t symbolic. It’s about education, life skills, and turning classroom learning into practical outcomes. Through our mining, rail and port operations, we can show these young women how their learning connects to real careers available close to home.”
Bravus first joined the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys' community family in 2019 as a partner of Try for 5! – the charity’s school-based attendance program that encourages students to attend school five days a week, supporting improved engagement and stronger learning outcomes.
They went on to become Presenting Partner of Adopt-a-School, the Cowboys' flagship program connecting more than 50 Townsville and District schools with their adopted Cowboys players and have been a Platinum Partner of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys since 2021 – with the Bravus logo proudly displayed on the NRL jersey sleeve.
In 2025, the partnership extended to bring together all arms of Bravus’ Australian operations – including its mining, port and rail businesses – while reinforcing its commitment to community initiatives and extending its support to the women’s game, through a major partnership with the North Queensland Cowboys NRLW team.
More than 2,000 people work across Bravus Australia’s operations at the Carmichael mine, the North Queensland Export Terminal at the Port of Abbot Point, and through Bowen Rail Company.
Their community investment includes more than $700,000 in grants delivered to local organisations since 2019, strong partnerships with Indigenous businesses, and now, a presenting partnership aligned with one of the region’s most important education initiatives.
Cowboys Community Foundation CEO Fiona Pelling said the partnership reflects a deep alignment of values.
“Bravus have been one of our most committed community partners since 2019, and this partnership is the natural next step in a relationship built on shared values,” Ms Pelling said.
“They understand what NRL Cowboys House is about – it’s not just a boarding facility, but a place where our young people can discover their potential and build the confidence to step boldly into their futures.
“This partnership sends a powerful message to every student, family and community we serve – together, we are building a stronger future for us all.”
