Creating moments that matter for our community

06 May 2026

For many, attending a Cowboys home game is part of the rhythm of the season.

But through the Cowboys Community Foundation’s Field of Dreams program, those same moments become something more - they are opportunities for connection, inclusion and shared experience.

Across the opening rounds of the 2026 NRL season, Townsville City Council supported the delivery of Field of Dreams, helping welcome community members from Canteen Australia, Access Support Services and Legacy North Queensland to Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

Through the program, community groups are supported to attend Cowboys home games, experiencing the energy of game day in an environment designed to be welcoming, inclusive and accessible.

For many, it was more than just a night at the footy. Guests attending with Access Support Services described the experience as one where they felt “welcomed, comfortable and truly included”, with the opportunity to be part of the atmosphere creating lasting memories.

“For many, this was more than just a day out. It was a chance to be part of something exciting, to share in the atmosphere, and to create memories that will be talked about for a long time," shared a representative from Access Support Services.

“Seeing the smiles and hearing their stories of dancing, singing and watching the game has undoubtedly provided them with a sense of connection and belonging which is incredibly special.”

The impact extended well beyond the game itself. For some participants, this was a rare opportunity to step outside of their usual environment, with one attendee describing the experience as the “best day of [his] life.”

Feedback across participating organisations was overwhelmingly positive, with all saying the experience improved emotional and social wellbeing, increased feelings of inclusion and created a lasting impact for their guests.

For families supported by Canteen Australia, the experience provided something equally meaningful, providing opportunity to spend quality time together in a unique and exciting setting.

“Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to get to a game as a family for the first time”, a participant supported by Canteen Australia said.

Moments like these reflect the purpose of Field of Dreams as the program aims to create opportunities for individuals and families to feel part of something bigger, while removing barriers to participation and connection.

Cowboys Community Foundation CEO Fiona Pelling said programs like Field of Dreams play an important role in strengthening community connection.

“Field of Dreams is about creating opportunities for people to feel part of something bigger. Whether it’s a first game experience or simply being part of the crowd, these moments build confidence, connection and a strong sense of belonging within our community,” Fiona said.

The delivery of these experiences is made possible through the support of valued partners. Townsville City Council played a key role across the opening home games, with the broader Field of Dreams program also supported by Cowboys Leagues Club, Toyota and Southern Cross Austereo.

Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto said Council was proud to support the Townsville community through Field of Dreams.

“Townsville loves the Cowboys and everyone should get the chance to get amongst the action and cheer on our team at home,” Cr Dametto said.

“Field of Dreams is about breaking down barriers for those who face challenges that make it difficult to get to a game and making sure they don’t miss out.

"For many participants, it’s their first visit to Queensland Country Bank Stadium, and seeing their smiles and excitement shows just how much it means to them.”

Through these partnerships, Field of Dreams continues to provide opportunities for individuals and families to connect, engage and share in the excitement of game day.

Because sometimes, it’s not just about the game, it’s about the moments that stay with you long after the final whistle.
