Dancers reflect strength, pride of culture
Performing on stage in front of friends and family is no easy feat, but the NRL Cowboys House Torres Strait Islander dance troupe did themselves proud at this year’s awards night.
The dancers had been hard at work throughout 2021 practising and preparing for the end of year performance, which complemented an Aboriginal dance performance by Townsville’s Wulgurukaba Walkabouts to open the celebrations.
Despite the early nerves, the students put on an emotional and entertaining dance performance reflecting the strong, proud culture of the Torres Strait Islands.
The performance is part of NRL Cowboys House’s commitment to a culturally respectful learning environment for students from 29 remote communities, which allows them to learn and practise their culture.
