House gets StreetSmarts
Preparing for adulthood is all part of life at NRL Cowboys House, with an interactive ‘StreetSmarts’ session for Queensland Road Safety Week teaching the importance of road safety to our next generation of drivers.
Hosted by NRL Cowboys House, the afternoon saw 100 students from local schools take part in presentations and activities to better understand the ‘fatal five’: speeding, alcohol and drugs, fatigue, distraction and failing to wear a seatbelt.
The students also heard from Townsville local Zaine Hayter, who shared his story after being involved in a single-vehicle rollover in 2011, which left him with life-changing injuries.
Young people continue to be one of the most at-risk groups on our roads – nine young people died in North Queensland crashes last year and a further 184 were hospitalised.
Queensland Road Safety Week is delivered annually in partnership by the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Queensland Police Service.
